Ford Bronco recall notices are headed to owners after federal safety regulators said damaged wiring in the engine compartment could short-circuit and create enough heat or spark to start a fire.

The recall covers up to 565,691 Ford Bronco and Bronco Raptor vehicles from model years 2021 through 2026, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. NHTSA said the defect involves an engine-compartment wiring harness that can short if it is damaged.

A short circuit in that area may produce smoke or ignite a fire, creating a risk of serious injury or death, the agency said in its recall notice. Ford told regulators that about 1% of the vehicles included in the recall are believed to have the defect.

Is my Ford Bronco recalled?

Owners can check whether their vehicle is included by searching their Vehicle Identification Number on NHTSA.gov. NHTSA said VINs covered by the recall became searchable on July 23, 2026.

The affected vehicles are 2021 to 2026 Bronco and Bronco Raptor models, according to NHTSA. A VIN check is the clearest way to confirm whether a specific SUV is part of the campaign.

What is the Ford Bronco fire risk?

NHTSA said the concern is a wiring harness inside the engine compartment. If that harness is damaged, it may short-circuit, which can generate heat, smoke or sparks.

That is why the recall is being treated as a fire-risk issue. The agency said a fire could increase the chance of serious injury or death.

How Ford plans to fix the problem

Ford dealers will install protective sheathing over the wiring at no cost to owners, according to NHTSA. The sheathing is intended to protect the affected wiring from damage that could lead to a short circuit.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning Aug. 24, 2026, NHTSA said. Owners do not have to pay for the dealer repair.

Ford owners with questions can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The company’s recall number is 26S55, according to the federal notice.

The recall is listed by NHTSA under campaign number 26V468. Drivers who want to check the federal filing or search their VIN can use the agency’s recall tools online.
