Ali G has a date with the big screen again: Sacha Baron Cohen announced on Instagram that Ali G: Who Iz I? will arrive in theaters on Oct. 23 through Amazon MGM Studios.

The reveal came in a video posted from the character’s official Instagram account, with Baron Cohen back in costume as the Staines-born wannabe media man he first introduced in 1998. The post also confirmed the movie’s title after a fresh run of public appearances for the character.

In the Instagram caption, Baron Cohen wrote in Ali G’s voice that a “documentary” had finally been made about him. The caption named the film as Ali G: Who Iz I? and gave the release date as “10.23.”

The movie will also mark Baron Cohen’s first time directing a feature film, according to Rolling Stone. Amazon MGM Studios is behind the theatrical release.

A rare return for Ali G

Baron Cohen had already teased the comeback earlier this month when he turned up at the Wimbledon finals in London dressed as Ali G. A photo from July 12 showed the character at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club during the 2026 Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

On Instagram during that Wimbledon appearance, Baron Cohen posted another in-character message joking about offering a “hookup” to anyone bored at the final, according to Rolling Stone.

The character has only popped up occasionally in recent years. Rolling Stone reported that Ali G last appeared in a brief segment on The Tonight Show in 2024, when Baron Cohen used the character to stage a mock debate involving Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

Before that, Baron Cohen revived Ali G for a surprise appearance at the Academy Awards in 2016.

Ali G’s screen history

Ali G’s first feature film, Ali G Indahouse, was released in 2002. That movie moved away from the mockumentary approach associated with Baron Cohen’s earlier work as the character.

The new announcement frames Ali G: Who Iz I? as a documentary in Ali G’s own words, although no plot details, cast list or trailer information were included in the Instagram reveal.

Baron Cohen’s Ali G became one of his best-known comic creations alongside later characters including Borat and Brüno. For now, the confirmed details are the title, studio, release date and Baron Cohen’s role behind the camera.

Ali G: Who Iz I? is scheduled to open in theaters on Oct. 23.
