Apple’s next MacBook Neo may add RAM and new colors, Bloomberg reports

Apple’s budget MacBook Neo is already in line for a refresh, with more memory, fresh color choices and an updated A19 Pro chip, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The reported update is part of a broader Mac push inside Apple, Gurman said, with new versions of MacBooks, desktops and iMacs in development or testing. The company has not announced the devices.
MacBook Neo gets the spotlight
The MacBook Neo is the newest entry in Apple’s laptop family, and Mashable reported that the lower-cost model initially sold out at launch. Its price has also changed since debut.
Mashable reported the MacBook Neo launched at $599, with education pricing taking it as low as $499. The machine now starts at $699 after Apple’s recent price increases.
Gurman’s Bloomberg report says the next MacBook Neo will move to an updated A19 Pro chip, add more memory and come in additional colors. Color has already been a visible part of Apple’s pitch for the Neo, according to Mashable.
The timing of the reported refresh was not specified in the available details, but the machine appears to be part of Apple’s next wave of Mac hardware planning.
Touchscreen MacBook Pro may finally arrive
Apple is also preparing high-end MacBook Pro models with touchscreens, Gurman reported. Those machines would also be the first MacBook Pros with OLED displays, according to Bloomberg.
Bloomberg says Apple is testing the new touchscreen MacBooks and is looking at an October 2026 launch for models using the M5 Pro chip. More advanced versions could follow in 2027 or early 2028, according to the report.
Mashable noted that talk of a touchscreen MacBook Pro has circulated for years. If Bloomberg’s timeline holds, Apple could be close to making one of its longest-running Mac rumors real.
Pricing may be a concern. Supply chain experts told Mashable that the global memory shortage is likely to worsen before it improves, and Mashable reported that laptops arriving in 2027 or later could still feel the effects.
MacBook Air, Mac mini and more
Bloomberg’s report also points to more MacBook options beyond the Neo and the touchscreen Pro. Gurman said Apple has developed a lower-end MacBook Pro using a new M6 chipset.
The MacBook Air is also expected to get an update, according to Bloomberg. Gurman reported that the popular laptop could receive its first major redesign in more than four years.
Apple’s desktop Macs are on the list as well. Bloomberg reported that Apple is testing Mac mini models with M5 Pro and M6 chips.
Mashable reported that the Mac mini and Mac Studio have been popular with users working with agentic AI technology, while the same AI boom has contributed to shortages. Bloomberg also reported that updates are planned for the iMac line, with more MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models in the works.
For now, the details remain reported plans rather than Apple announcements. The company has not publicly confirmed the next MacBook Neo, touchscreen MacBook Pro or the wider Mac refresh described by Gurman.
