Desi Lydic took on Trump over high prices on The Daily Show, using a clip from a Georgia rally where the president complained that reporters asked what he would do about costs on his first day in office.
In the rally footage played during the segment, Trump said the press was already pressing him on high prices immediately after he arrived back at the White House. Trump said in the clip, “I just got here!” and added, “Give me a break!”
Lydic, hosting from behind The Daily Show desk, turned the complaint into the center of the joke. Her response: “Give me a break, I didn’t expect to jump into work right away, I just ran to stay out of prison!”
What did Desi Lydic say about Trump and high prices?
Lydic argued in the bit that Trump could not present himself as new to the job, because he had already spent four years as president. She joked that he may have had old pens waiting in the desk and mocked the idea that he expected a first-day orientation.
“What do you mean you just got here?” Lydic said in the segment. “You already had the job for four years.”
She kept the gag going by imagining Trump as if he were expecting to shadow former President Joe Biden for a day, then shifted to what she framed as his preferred first-day agenda. Lydic joked that he wanted time to settle in, put his belongings down, and handle “pardoning January 6thers.”
Where did the Trump clip come from?
The Trump footage aired within The Daily Show segment and was described by Mashable as coming from a recent rally in Georgia. The clip showed Trump telling the crowd that reporters had asked him on day one what he planned to do about high prices.
The segment was published online as part of The Daily Show’s continuing run of political comedy clips featuring Lydic. Mashable’s Sam Haysom reported on the video on July 24, 2026, under the site’s entertainment and TV shows coverage.
The exchange fits the familiar late-night formula: a campaign-style clip, a desk reaction, and a sharp punchline built around the gap between Trump’s complaint and Lydic’s view that the job was hardly new to him.
No additional response from Trump to Lydic’s segment was included in Mashable’s report.
