Is Bernard alive in Silo? Season 3, episode 4 gives the blunt answer in its final moments: Juliette finds the former head of IT breathing, burned and hidden in a bed at the silo’s lowest level.
The reveal rewrites what viewers had been told earlier in the season. Bernard, played by Tim Robbins, had been presumed dead after the airlock fire that trapped him with Juliette, played by Rebecca Ferguson, at the end of Season 2.
What happened at the end of Silo season 3 episode 4?
Most of episode 4 follows Juliette as she tries to stay alive after Camille, played by Alexandria Riley, makes a move against her in the hospital. With help from her nurse, played by Jacqueline Berces, Juliette gets out of the hospital and keeps moving.
Her escape takes another turn in the pump room, where Sims, played by Common, is waiting. Juliette leaves before hearing what he wants to tell her.
Juliette then gets help from her allies in mechanical and heads back down toward the bottom of the silo. That is the same area where Lukas Kyle, played by Avi Nash, found the tunnel in Season 2.
Lukas is not the person waiting there in episode 4. Juliette hears coughing, moves a curtain aside and discovers Bernard lying in a bed. The episode shows him badly injured from burns, yet alive enough to greet her by name.
Is Bernard alive in Silo season 3?
Yes. The ending of episode 4 shows Bernard alive, despite the earlier claim that he died after the airlock incident.
The backstory matters. At the close of Season 2, Bernard and Juliette were both inside the airlock when the anti-contamination fire went off. Juliette had a modified fire suit. Bernard did not have the same protection.
Season 3, episode 1 then presented Bernard as dead through Sims’ account to Juliette. Sims told her that flames burned through Bernard’s suit, poison got in and that Bernard’s body was taken to the incinerator after the stairs and central shaft were cleared. Sims also said he watched Bernard burn.
Episode 4 now shows that account was not the whole story. Bernard has severe burns, which fits part of what viewers were told, but the person Juliette finds has not been incinerated.
Who lied about Bernard?
The episode does not confirm who arranged Bernard’s survival or why he was kept out of sight. Sims is the most obvious figure under suspicion because he gave Juliette the account of Bernard’s death and later appears to be trying to speak with her in the pump room.
The reveal also raises a bigger question for the season: why would anyone hide Bernard in the depths of the silo? Episode 4 leaves that unanswered, setting up a fresh mystery around Sims, Bernard and the balance of power underground.
Silo Season 3 is streaming on Apple TV, with new episodes released on Fridays.
