Kylian Mbappé is back on the box for EA’s football series, with Electronic Arts naming the French star as the cover athlete for EA Sports FC 27 Ultimate Edition.
The reveal marks Mbappé’s first cover appearance for the franchise under the EA Sports FC name. EA said it is also his return to the wider football series cover after a four-year gap.
Mbappé will be front and center in more than one EA football release. The company also named him the new cover athlete for EA Sports FC Mobile, extending his existing relationship with the gaming franchise.
What EA revealed
EA’s announcement puts Mbappé at the center of the next rollout for EA Sports FC 27. The cover news opens a week of updates from the publisher, with the official gameplay trailer scheduled for Thursday, July 23, at 9 a.m. PT and 12 p.m. ET.
The company has not revealed gameplay details in the cover announcement. For now, the headline item is the star power: one of football’s biggest names leading the Ultimate Edition packaging before the first look at the game in action.
Mbappé said being selected for the cover of an EA Sports FC title for the first time was “a very special moment” for him. He called it an honor to continue his long-running relationship with the franchise “in its latest chapter” and said he could not wait for players to experience FC 27.
Why Mbappé is the pick
The cover reveal follows another high-profile stretch for the Real Madrid forward, according to the details released with the announcement.
Since joining Real Madrid in 2024, Mbappé has finished as La Liga’s top scorer in both of his seasons in Spain. He also won the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League Golden Boot after scoring 15 goals in the competition.
His international record with France is part of the picture too. The announcement said Mbappé has become the World Cup’s all-time leading goalscorer and the first player to win the tournament’s Golden Boot twice.
Those achievements arrive alongside his continuing presence in EA’s football games, where cover status is one of the franchise’s most visible honors. For players waiting on the next edition, the bigger reveal comes with the gameplay trailer later this week.
Until then, EA has made clear who will be staring back from the Ultimate Edition: Mbappé, in his first EA Sports FC cover role and his first return to the franchise cover in four years.
