The streaming queue is crowded again, and Mashable’s July 24 watch guide points to a week stacked with franchise returns, animated revivals, true crime, sci-fi spinoffs and one very specific K-pop shark special.
Disney+ has Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first Star Wars film since The Rise of Skywalker, according to Mashable. The film follows Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, and Grogu as they face Imperial warlords and Hutts. Mashable entertainment reporter Belen Edwards called the movie a disappointment in her review, while noting a Grogu-focused swamp sequence as a standout.
Prime Video is carrying Masters of the Universe, a live-action He-Man adventure starring Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam and Jared Leto as Skeletor. Mashable’s Kristy Puchko wrote that director Travis Knight’s film sends Adam from Eternia to Earth before drawing him back into battle with Skeletor, with Idris Elba among the cast as Man-at-Arms Duncan.
Hulu gets two comedy arrivals. King of the Hill Season 15 brings Hank, Peggy, Bobby and the Arlen crew back after Season 14 aged up the characters. Mashable says the new season includes Bobby and Connie dating again, Hank visiting Comic-Con, Peggy getting fired up over golf and the Alley Gang tangling with magnetic fishing and an electric car.
Also landing on Hulu on July 24 are Nirvanna the Band the Show and Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie. Mashable describes the Canadian mockumentary from Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol as a story about two musicians trying to play Toronto’s Rivoli, with the movie adding time travel to 2008.
Netflix has Ransom Canyon Season 2. Based on books by Jodi Thomas, April Blair’s Texas-set drama stars Josh Duhamel as Staten and Minka Kelly as Quinn, with Mashable recapping Season 1 as a mix of grief, romance, land deals and small-town drama.
Paramount+ is streaming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4, with new episodes weekly. Mashable says the season continues the adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise crew, led by Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong and Rebecca Romijn.
HBO Max has Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, a spinoff from The Big Bang Theory. The new show follows Kevin Sussman’s Stuart Bloom as he tries to reverse an apocalypse with familiar faces from the original sitcom, which Variety has described as one of TV’s most popular comedies.
AMC+ adds The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 on July 26. Mashable says the spinoff brings back Lauren Cohan’s Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan in Manhattan, with Seth Hoffman serving as the new showrunner.
The rest of the week goes wide. A Killer Among Friends Season 2 is on ID and HBO Max, with Jennifer Love Hewitt hosting six true-crime stories, according to Mashable. Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross Season 2 is on Roku, following Ross through Northern Thailand, Australia and Switzerland, while Roku has claimed the first season was its most-watched unscripted show.
Discovery’s Shark Week slate includes K-Pop Shark Heroes, premiering July 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with Rei Ami and Ken Jeong learning about sharks off Korea’s coast. Adult Swim premieres President Curtis the same night at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT, with the Rick and Morty spinoff streaming the next day on HBO Max.
