Samsung’s incoming Galaxy Glasses are already dressing for two very different crowds.
At Wednesday’s Galaxy Unpacked event, the company showed eyewear designs made with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, according to Mashable. The glasses are part of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy lineup, and Samsung said during the event that they are due to launch this fall.
Mashable reported getting an early look at the frames in London. The outlet said it was not allowed to try the glasses on, but staff were able to pick them up and found them light.
The early reveal is mostly about style for now. CNET reported that four Galaxy Glasses designs have been shown so far, split between Samsung’s two eyewear partners.
Warby Parker keeps it classic
The Warby Parker versions shown to Mashable lean into a familiar optical-store shape. The outlet described two Warby Parker frames with square silhouettes, giving them a more traditional look than some of the other designs.
Mashable said one of the Warby Parker pairs it saw had tinted lenses. Across the frames, the outlet reported dark-colored builds, with two tinted pairs and the others using clear lenses.
Samsung’s own press release identified the tinted Warby Parker version as brown, according to Mashable.
Based on the early descriptions, the Warby Parker side of the Galaxy Glasses lineup appears to be the safer, everyday option: square frames, dark finishes and a design language closer to conventional prescription glasses or sunglasses.
Gentle Monster goes sharper
The Gentle Monster designs, by comparison, push the look in a more fashion-forward direction, according to Mashable’s first look.
One Gentle Monster pair was described by Mashable as more modern, with slimmer lenses. The outlet compared its style to something a shopper might see at Urban Outfitters, while also noting a higher price tag.
The second Gentle Monster pair stayed closer to the Warby Parker shape, Mashable reported, with squarer lenses and a less narrow profile.
That gives Samsung two lanes at launch: Warby Parker for a more classic frame shape, and Gentle Monster for buyers who want the glasses to look more like a style piece.
Samsung has not shared the full consumer rollout details in the reports cited, but the company did use Unpacked to put the eyewear partnerships on display. With a fall launch announced, the next round of information is expected to determine how these frames move from preview table to store shelf.
