Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold8 has landed with a pricing twist: the unlocked 256GB model starts at $1,899.99, which Mashable reported is $100 less than the older Galaxy Z Fold7’s $1,999.99 starting price.
The pricing wrinkle arrived alongside Samsung Unpacked 2026, where the company introduced a fresh batch of phones, updated Galaxy Watches and smart glasses designed with help from Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, according to Mashable.
Preorders are now live, and the early offers make the usual new-phone question messier than usual. The latest model is not automatically the pricier option, at least in the Fold line, and Amazon’s gift-card promos add another layer.
The Fold8 price cut is the headline move
Mashable reported that the base Galaxy Z Fold8, unlocked with 256GB of storage, is listed at $1,899.99. The prior Galaxy Z Fold7, also unlocked with 256GB of storage, is listed at $1,999.99 through Samsung.
Amazon is currently selling a new Galaxy Z Fold7 for $1,799.99, according to Mashable. A renewed model from Amazon Resale is listed at $1,424.99.
For shoppers looking at the newest Fold, Amazon’s preorder listing for the Galaxy Z Fold8 is $1,899.99 and includes a free $350 Amazon gift card, Mashable reported. That does not lower the checkout price, but it changes the value calculation for anyone who expects to spend at Amazon anyway.
The Flip8 costs more, with a preorder sweetener
The Galaxy Z Flip8 follows a more familiar pattern. Mashable reported that the unlocked 256GB Galaxy Z Flip8 starts at $1,199.99, which is $100 above the Galaxy Z Flip7’s current $1,099.99 price at Samsung.
The Flip7 had the same $1,099.99 price at launch for the unlocked 256GB model, according to Mashable. In Mashable’s review of the Galaxy Z Flip7, freelance reviewer Adam Doud described it as the best flip phone of 2025.
Amazon’s preorder offer for the Galaxy Z Flip8 includes a free $200 Amazon gift card with the $1,199.99 phone, Mashable reported. As with the Fold8 offer, the usefulness of that perk depends on whether the buyer would use the card.
The quick price board

For now, the cleanest surprise is in the Fold lineup: Samsung’s newest big foldable starts below last year’s model, while Amazon’s preorder bonus gives the new Fold8 and Flip8 extra leverage against their predecessors.
