Shaboozey is bringing a full posse to his next album, and one name jumps off the wanted poster: Sam Elliott.
The country artist announced the official guest list for The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales on social media Tuesday. In an Instagram post, Shaboozey told fans to pre-save the album on Spotify and said it arrives July 31.
Elliott’s inclusion gives the project a big-screen western jolt. Rolling Stone noted the actor’s long history with cowboy-adjacent roles, including appearances in Tombstone and The Big Lebowski.
The album also features Jamie Foxx and Teyana Taylor, two performers known for both acting and music. Rolling Stone reported that Taylor won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture for One Battle After Another.
Shaboozey’s music-world guests are just as broad. According to his announcement, the album includes R&B singer Kehlani, rapper Gunna, soul artist Leon Bridges and masked country singer Orville Peck.
One detail is still under wraps: Shaboozey shared the track list, but did not say which guest appears on which song.
The track list
The 15-song album runs through titles built for saloons, shootouts and heartbreak:
- “Hell Is Hot”
- “Sweet Revenge”
- “If I Was an Outlaw”
- “Cowgirl”
- “Burn It Down”
- “Death of Jeremiah Walker”
- “Drunk”
- “Ugly & All”
- “Bullets & Blades”
- “Don’t Count Down”
- “Lone Survivor”
- “Bounty on My Head”
- “Born to Die”
- “Kissed By an Angel”
- “The Worst of Them All”
The guest list fits with how Shaboozey has described the record. In May, he told Rolling Stone’s Nashville Now podcast that he wanted to bring film, music and storytelling into one project.
“It was always my dream to put all the things I love about movies and music and stories into one cohesive body of work that I felt like people in today’s current music landscape aren’t really doing,” Shaboozey said on the podcast.
He also said the album’s title character grew out of his interest in forceful women at the center of stories. “The Outlaw Cherie Lee came from my love for strong female protagonists,” he told Rolling Stone, citing Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill with Uma Thurman and Jackie Brown with Pam Grier.
With Elliott, Foxx, Taylor, Gunna, Kehlani, Bridges and Peck now confirmed, Shaboozey has set up The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales as a genre-crossing ride. The album is scheduled for release July 31.
