Student streaming discounts cut Hulu to $1.99 and HBO Max to $5.49
Rolling Stone rounded up student deals across TV, music, delivery and shopping services, with Hulu offering the steepest listed discount.

Hulu is dangling one of the sharpest back-to-school streaming cuts for students, with its ad-supported plan listed at $1.99 a month, according to a Rolling Stone roundup by Jonathan Zavaleta.
The deal is an 83% discount from the usual $11.99 monthly price, Rolling Stone reports. The publication notes that Hulu’s standalone app remains available for now, despite Disney’s plans to discontinue it.
The roundup arrives as back-to-school buying starts early, with families and students looking for savings amid high inflation and economic uncertainty, according to Rolling Stone. The deals stretch past backpacks and laptops into subscriptions for TV, music, deliveries and online shopping.
How students qualify
Most streaming services ask students to confirm eligibility, often through verification platforms such as SheerID, Rolling Stone reports. The publication also points students toward free deal hubs including Unidays and StudentBeans, which collect student discounts.
Some services also offer longer free trials for students. Rolling Stone says certain trials can run as long as six months.
TV and video deals
Hulu: Rolling Stone lists the student price at $1.99 a month for the ad-supported plan, down from $11.99.
Amazon Prime: The student and young adult offer is listed at $7.50 a month after a six-month free trial, compared with $14.99. Rolling Stone says the deal applies to people ages 18 to 24, as well as eligible enrolled college students older than 24.
Paramount+: Rolling Stone says students can get 50% off either the ad-supported Paramount+ Essential plan or the ad-free Paramount+ Premium plan. The roundup lists Premium at $6.99 for students, compared with $13.99.
Peacock: Peacock Premium is listed at $5.99 a month for students for 12 months, down from $10.99. Rolling Stone says the ad-supported tier includes sports, live NBC programming and original shows.
HBO Max: Rolling Stone lists the ad-supported HBO Max plan at $5.49 a month for students, half off its regular $10.99 price. Students can verify through Unidays, according to the roundup.
Music deals
Spotify’s student offer bundles Spotify Premium with Hulu for $6.99 a month after a 30-day free trial, Rolling Stone reports. The publication compares that with $12.99 for Spotify Premium alone and $11.99 for a standalone Hulu plan, calling it a 72% discount.
Apple Music is also listed at $6.99 a month for students. Rolling Stone says the offer includes Apple TV, which carries original programming and sports including F1, MLS and select MLB games.
Tidal’s student plan is listed at $6.99 a month, down from $11.99. Rolling Stone describes the service as focused on high-fidelity music and notes that it does not include podcasts.
Delivery and shopping perks
The roundup also includes student discounts beyond streaming. DoorDash DashPass is listed at $4.99 a month, half off the usual $9.99, with $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees, according to Rolling Stone.
Walmart+ is listed at $6.47 a month for students, compared with $12.95. Rolling Stone says the membership includes free grocery delivery, free shipping, gas savings and free access to either Peacock Premium or Paramount+ Essential.
