Chris Colfer joined Darren Criss at a London concert for a Glee-flavored performance of “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” bringing their characters Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson back into the spotlight.
Variety reported that Colfer made the surprise appearance during Criss’ one-night-only show at the Royal Albert Hall. Criss started the number by himself, telling the audience he would take both vocal parts, before Colfer walked on a few verses later.
Colfer greeted the moment with a joke, according to Variety: “The only thing inappropriate about doing this song is doing it without me.” The pair then performed the song together.
What did Chris Colfer and Darren Criss perform in London?
They sang “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” the same holiday duet they performed on Glee as Kurt and Blaine. Variety said their earlier version appeared in the Season 2 Christmas episode, “A Very Glee Christmas,” which aired in 2010.
Colfer played Kurt Hummel on the Fox musical series, while Criss played Blaine Anderson. Their characters began dating in Season 2 and became engaged and married in the final season, according to Variety.
The London performance was a nod to that on-screen pairing, rather than an announcement about the show’s future. The appearance does not confirm a Glee reboot.
There has been separate talk of a possible return. Variety reported last month that creator Ryan Murphy said he had completed a script with Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who wrote the show’s first two seasons. Murphy said he had contacted about 10 members of the original cast, but added that nobody had read the script.
That leaves any revival firmly in discussion stage. For the Royal Albert Hall audience, though, Colfer’s entrance gave Criss’ concert a familiar duet from the Glee catalogue.
