Edko takes worldwide rights to Toronto title We Are Born Good
Yeung Leung Cheun’s first feature will screen in TIFF’s Discovery section, with Edko Films handling global sales.

Hong Kong’s Edko Films has secured worldwide rights to We Are Born Good, the first feature directed by filmmaker Yeung Leung Cheun, Deadline reported.
The film has been selected for the Discovery section at the Toronto International Film Festival, putting Yeung’s debut feature among the festival’s showcase for emerging and rising filmmakers.
We Are Born Good stars Yeung Wai Lun and Chung Suet Ying, who is a Golden Horse best actress winner. According to Deadline, the film takes inspiration from a CCTV clip that spread widely online after a small physical clash between two workers in a Hong Kong market spiraled into disorder.
The drama centers on two people pulled into escalating retaliation that grows beyond their control, the report said.
A debut shaped by pressure-cooker city life
Yeung said in a statement that modern urban work can be fast, pressured and difficult, especially in a world he described as changing quickly and hard to predict. He said people can live near a “tipping point,” where a small spark can set off a larger blowup.
The director said We Are Born Good aims to portray the lives behind people who are living restlessly in the city.
Before moving into feature directing, Yeung built his career as a screenwriter. His credits include Hong Kong Family, which was selected for the 27th Busan International Film Festival, according to Deadline.
He has also worked on award-winning short films including Liu Yang He and Wild Child. Yeung won best director at the 12th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival for his short The Bridge.
Patricia Cheng produces
We Are Born Good is produced by veteran Hong Kong producer Patricia Cheng through Good Night Production, with backing from the Hong Kong Film Development Fund, Deadline reported.
Cheng has previously produced several films by director Sylvia Chang, including Love Education and Murmur of the Hearts.
Edko’s pickup gives the Toronto-bound title a global sales home as it heads into the festival circuit. No release date or additional territory plans were announced in the report.
