A truck was filmed heading down a hill as loosened earth, rocks and dust swept across a road after a powerful earthquake struck off Mexico’s coast Friday morning.

Video shared on X by Brazilian outlet g1 showed a landslide pushing dirt, stones and debris over the roadway. The vehicle in the clip appeared to keep moving and avoid being caught in the slide.

The earthquake was reported at magnitude 7.3 and hit shortly before 8 a.m. off the coast of Mexico, TMZ reported. The shaking prompted a tsunami warning and was reported to have affected Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador.

Clips show shaking indoors and on the road

A second video, credited by TMZ to the X account @TehuantepecGAP, showed a light fixture swinging from a ceiling inside a home while the person recording watched the movement continue.

Another X post by Surajit said CCTV had captured the moment the 7.3-magnitude quake hit Mexico. The footage was among several clips circulating online as people documented the shaking and its aftermath.

g1’s X post also described the quake as magnitude 7.3 and said a tsunami alert had been issued. The post was published Friday afternoon and linked to the outlet’s coverage.

Officials report limited injuries so far

CNN reported that Mexico’s Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, told a press conference the quake caused “no serious damage.”

Mexican officials also said water levels were expected to rise at some beaches, according to TMZ, and urged people to stay away from the ocean for the time being.

Chiapas Civil Protection has reported three injuries so far, CNN reported. In Guatemala, President Bernardo Arévalo said he had not received reports of any fatalities, according to CNN.

The quake comes after a series of frightening images moved quickly across social media, including the roadway slide and shaking inside homes. Officials’ early public statements pointed to limited confirmed harm, while warnings around coastal water levels remained in place.

No further casualty figures or damage totals were reported in the accounts cited by TMZ and CNN.
