Prime Video has put a date on its Marília Mendonça documentary, setting Marília Mendonça: Sentimento Louco for an October 16 launch on the platform.
The streamer also released a teaser for the project, Deadline reported. The documentary focuses on Mendonça, the Brazilian singer who became one of the best-known names in sertanejo, the country-influenced genre that made her a major force in Brazil’s music scene.
Mendonça died in a plane crash in 2021 while she was on her way to a concert. She was 26.
Prime Video said the documentary draws on a large archive connected to the singer’s life and work. According to the company, the production had access to 530,000 images, 50,000 videos, plus notes and messages that helped uncover parts of her career and personal story that had not previously been known.
The title, Sentimento Louco, refers to one of Mendonça’s hit songs.
Friends, family and colleagues tell her story
The film includes contributions from people close to Mendonça, including friends, relatives and professional collaborators, according to Prime Video.
The documentary revisits her rise and her role in reshaping Brazil’s music industry. Prime Video described Mendonça as one of sertanejo’s leading representatives and said her success helped open space for other women in the genre.
Marília Mendonça: Sentimento Louco is produced by Chatrone and Kromaki. Susanna Lira directs.
Amazon expands its Marília Mendonça slate
The documentary is the first project to arrive under Amazon’s broader push around Mendonça’s story. Deadline reported that Amazon secured a deal allowing it to make projects about the singer, with additional plans expected beyond the documentary and the feature film already underway.
Production on the movie, titled Marília, began this month. Marina Versos, described by Deadline as a breakout star, plays Mendonça in the Amazon MGM Studios project.
Amazon is also extending the effort beyond screen projects. The company is sponsoring an exhibition about Mendonça in São Paulo and is running promotions tied to the singer on Amazon Music, according to Deadline.
Together, the documentary, film, exhibition and music promotions make Mendonça the center of a larger Prime Video and Amazon campaign, timed to bring her story to audiences across streaming, film, music and live cultural programming.
