Stewie Griffin’s solo act is getting a bigger playground.
Variety reported that the upcoming Fox animated series Stewie, a spinoff of Family Guy, has added six voice performers to its cast: Mike Henry, Kenan Thompson, Vanessa Bayer, Melissa O’Neil, Aaron Lee and Jessica Lowe. Seth MacFarlane is already set to return as Stewie.
The series was announced in March with a two-season order at Fox, according to Variety. The network is also home to Family Guy, which is heading into its 25th season.
The new show follows Stewie after he is kicked out of his former preschool and sent to a less impressive new one. According to the official description cited by Variety, the school comes with unfamiliar children, an elderly classroom turtle with theories about nearly everything and a teacher whose classroom judgment is questionable.
Stewie is unhappy, and so are the people around him. That changes when he starts using his gadgets to turn ordinary school days into trips through space and time.
Who is joining Stewie?
Thompson will voice Royal, one of Stewie’s new friends. Variety described the character as someone who is not keen on the danger that comes with Stewie’s adventures.
Bayer will play Morgan, Stewie’s teacher. Variety reported that Morgan is written as someone more interested in partying than keeping a close eye on the children.
Henry, a longtime Family Guy voice actor, will voice BJ. Variety identified BJ as a talkative new classmate of Stewie’s and the son of Bruce from Family Guy.
Lowe will voice Caroline, a classmate who wants to be an influencer and becomes a major rival for Stewie in the classroom, according to Variety.
O’Neil will voice Wanda, described by Variety as Stewie’s intellectual match and romantic interest. Lee will voice Skunk, the century-old classroom turtle who has a theory for everything.
MacFarlane will also voice Bean, another of Stewie’s classmates. Variety described Bean as a boy who does not say much and has suffered repeated head injuries.
The team behind the spinoff
Stewie was created by MacFarlane and Kirker Butler. Butler will serve as showrunner and executive produce alongside Kara Vallow, Variety reported.
The series is produced by 20th Television Animation.
The project expands one of Fox’s longest-running animated worlds by moving Stewie away from the Griffin family home and into a school setting built for time travel, strange classmates and the kind of sci-fi mayhem the character has long carried inside Family Guy.
