Police body-camera footage released in New York shows Gabriel Hostin, the son of “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin, being cited for trespassing after officers said he was on active railroad tracks, according to TMZ.

The incident happened last month while Gabriel was out running, TMZ reported. According to the outlet, he had noticed a gravel incline and thought it could work as a spot for hill training.

Officers said the area was part of active railroad tracks in New York City, TMZ reported. Gabriel was cited for trespassing, and the case is now headed toward a scheduled court appearance on July 31.

Sunny Hostin is handling the case

Sunny Hostin, who is also an attorney and former federal prosecutor, is representing her son in the matter, according to TMZ.

Hostin has already asked prosecutors to dismiss the citation. In a letter to the district attorney, reported by TMZ, she argued that there was no visible “no trespassing” sign at the entrance to the incline and said her son believed the area was open to the public.

Hostin described the incident as an honest mistake in that letter, according to TMZ. The outlet reported that she is seeking to have the case dropped before Gabriel’s court date.

The body-camera video puts the encounter on tape, adding a new layer to a minor legal scrape involving one of daytime TV’s most recognizable legal voices. TMZ reported that the footage shows the citation being issued during the police interaction.

Gabriel has not been reported by TMZ as making a separate public statement about the citation. Sunny Hostin’s position is laid out in the letter she sent to the district attorney, where she challenged the basis for the trespassing case and pointed to the alleged lack of posted warning at the location.

No additional details about the exact location, the officer involved, or any potential penalty were reported by TMZ. The next listed step in the case is Gabriel Hostin’s July 31 court appearance.
