West Duchovny is joining the grid at AMC.
Deadline reports that the actor has been cast in Thunder Road, AMC’s NASCAR drama from John Fusco. She joins a previously announced lineup that includes Dennis Quaid, Chase Stokes, Michael Rooker, Matt Barr and Maggie Grace.
The series centers on the Whitlocks, a fictional family whose name is tied to stock car racing and Southern hill country roots. According to Deadline, the show follows the family across generations as its racing legacy comes under pressure.
Quaid stars as Duane Whitlock, a famed driver known as “The Wrecking Ball.” Deadline describes the character as the patriarch of a racing empire that grew out of moonshine runs and dirt-track competition. In the series, Duane is trying to keep that empire alive as rivals move in on the family’s position.
Duchovny’s role
Duchovny will play Cassie Whitlock, the youngest of the Whitlock siblings, according to Deadline. Cassie is described as a bold, combative driver who has picked up both her father’s talent behind the wheel and his hunger to win.
The character believes she has earned a place at Daytona Speedway and pushes back against Duane’s old-school view of the family business. Deadline also reports that Cassie’s personal entanglements could put the Whitlock racing legacy at risk.
The role adds another family rival to a drama already built around speed, inheritance and control. AMC has not announced a premiere date in the Deadline report.
Who is behind the series
Fusco is an executive producer on Thunder Road. Deadline reports that Taylor Elmore is also executive producing and serving as showrunner.
Other executive producers include Cliff Roberts with Syndicate Entertainment, Mark L. Smith, and NASCAR Studios’ Tim Clark and John Dahl. Gladys Cheng is a producer. The series is produced in association with NASCAR.
Duchovny’s recent work
Duchovny can currently be seen in Peacock’s The Five-Star Weekend, Deadline reports. In that series, she plays the daughter of Chloë Sevigny’s character, appearing alongside Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, D’Arcy Carden and Gemma Chan.
Her recent credits also include Netflix’s limited series Painkiller, directed by Pete Berg, and Hulu’s Saint X, directed by Dee Rees. Deadline also notes that she appeared opposite Jim Gaffigan in Colin West’s independent film Linoleum.
Duchovny is represented by Untitled and Gersh, according to Deadline.
