2026 3M Open leaderboard: Ben Kohles leads, Scottie Scheffler lurks

The 2026 3M Open leaderboard has Ben Kohles on top after a career day at TPC Twin Cities, with Scottie Scheffler three shots back after his putter finally joined the party.
Kohles opened Thursday with a 9-under 62, the lowest round of his PGA Tour career, according to CBS Sports. The round put him two strokes ahead of Jackson Koivun, Gary Woodland and Emiliano Grillo, who each sat at 7 under after Round 1.
Scheffler, the world No. 1, posted a bogey-free 6-under 65 and landed in a tie for fifth with Lucas Glover, Michael Brennan, Kevin Roy and Jesper Svensson. CBS Sports noted that Scheffler has held the top world ranking for nearly 200 weeks, but has gone nearly 200 days without a win.
Who leads the 2026 3M Open after Round 1?
Kohles leads after one round at 9 under. Koivun, Woodland and Grillo are next at 7 under, followed by a group at 6 under that includes Scheffler.
Kohles did serious damage with his irons. CBS Sports reported that he gained more than five strokes on the field on approach, helping him start a key three-week stretch in the PGA Tour season with exactly the kind of round he needed.
Kohles has been splitting time between the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour. He said after his near miss at the John Deere Classic that he spoke with his team and felt he had put himself in position to play the PGA Tour as much as possible, while still having a Korn Ferry Tour path available if the FedEx Cup Playoffs do not happen for him.
He entered the week No. 100 in the PGA Tour’s season-long race and No. 8 in the Korn Ferry Tour standings, according to CBS Sports. The FedEx Cup standings are the PGA Tour’s points race that decides playoff positioning, with Kohles saying his focus is trying to make the top 70.
How did Scottie Scheffler putt in Round 1?
Scheffler’s putting was the loud part of his 65. After making only six putts from outside 10 feet at The Open, CBS Sports reported that he made five from that range on Thursday alone.
His birdie putts included makes from 15 feet at No. 12, 17 feet at No. 18, 15 feet at No. 1, 30 feet at No. 4 and 10 feet at No. 7. He also converted a short birdie at No. 6 and saved par from 18 feet at No. 15.
Scheffler said he did not find many fairways early, but avoided bogeys and kept his round moving. He also said the fresh greens in Minnesota were easier than the links greens he dealt with the previous week, where he felt he was on the wrong side of uneven rolls.
The PGA Tour posted that Scheffler’s bogey-free 65 left him leading the field in strokes gained putting at that point.
Who else is in the hunt?
Koivun, 21, continued a sharp early run as a professional. After missing the cut in his pro debut at the John Deere Classic, he finished in the top 10 at the ISCO Championship, then opened the 3M Open with a 64, according to CBS Sports.
Koivun said the course was yielding scores and that he tried to play smart while attacking when the moment called for it.
DraftKings Sportsbook listed Scheffler as the betting favorite at +160 after Round 1, followed by Kohles at 6-1, Koivun at 9-1, Woodland at 14-1 and Grillo at 17-1, according to odds cited by CBS Sports.
