Tennessee has landed five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, one of the flashiest names in the 2027 recruiting class, according to CBS Sports.
Georges, a standout at Baylor School in Chattanooga, chose the Volunteers from a final group that also included Ole Miss and Ohio State. CBS Sports reported that he was set to announce his decision Wednesday during a CBS Sports HQ ceremony, with the stream also carried on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel.
The commitment keeps Tennessee’s top-rated in-state player close to home. CBS Sports listed Georges as the No. 10 overall player in the 2027 cycle and the No. 2 running back, while his 247Sports profile rates him as a 98 overall prospect, No. 12 nationally, No. 2 at running back and No. 1 in Tennessee.
At Baylor School last season, Georges ran for 1,749 yards and 27 touchdowns, according to CBS Sports. He is listed by 247Sports at 6-foot and 210 pounds.
A recruitment with heavyweight traffic
Georges had more than 30 scholarship offers and took official visits to each of his three finalists, according to CBS Sports. Ohio State hosted him in May, and Ole Miss got the final visit weekend of the trio on June 12.
Tennessee had its own big recruiting weekend with Georges last month. CBS Sports reported that he met former Volunteers star Alvin Kamara during that visit, along with Tennessee freshman cornerback Jamyan Theodore and offensive lineman Gabriel Osenda.
Theodore and Osenda were familiar faces. CBS Sports reported that both played with Georges at Baylor School last season.
Georges is originally from Canada, according to CBS Sports, and has become one of the most closely watched running backs in the 2027 class while playing in Chattanooga.
Why scouts are high on him
247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins praised Georges’ running style in comments to CBS Sports, pointing to his vision, balance through contact and ability to let blocks form before bursting through traffic.
“I think he's got everything it takes to be the centerpiece of a national title-winning offense,” Ivins said, according to CBS Sports.
Ivins said 247Sports is selective with five-star running back grades and described Georges as a “true game-wrecker.” He also said Georges is difficult to bring down, has performed in key moments against crowded fronts and reminds him somewhat of Quinshon Judkins while still having his own style.
CBS Sports also reported that Ivins views Georges as comfortable in pass protection and useful as a receiving option out of the backfield. That versatility is part of why the scouting evaluation frames him as a potential early contributor at a Power Four program with NFL traits.
For Tennessee, the commitment adds a major 2027 piece at a premium offensive skill spot and gives the Vols a win over two national recruiting powers in Ohio State and Ole Miss.
