The Jacob Misiorowski Cy Young odds still have the Brewers right-hander sitting in front, but CBS Sports says Milwaukee’s plan for his arm could make this race far less settled than the betting board suggests.
Matt Snyder of CBS Sports wrote that Misiorowski would be the clear National League Cy Young pick if the award were decided now. The 24-year-old has been electric for Milwaukee, carrying a 10-4 record, 1.57 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 173 strikeouts against 28 walks over 115 innings.
The catch is workload. According to Snyder, Misiorowski has thrown only four innings since July 7. He logged 161 1/3 innings across the minors, majors and playoffs last season after throwing 97 1/3 innings in 2024, and he is already at 115 this year.

Yes, Misiorowski can still win it, and DraftKings odds cited by CBS Sports list him as the favorite at -245. The Cy Young Award goes to the top pitcher in each league, and voters often weigh both dominance and volume, which is why his innings total could matter down the stretch.
Snyder’s read is that the Brewers, listed at 64-38, have bigger October plans than chasing a regular-season trophy. Milwaukee has not reached the World Series since 1982, when the club was in the American League, and Snyder wrote that the team will want Misiorowski ready to work deep into postseason games.
That is where the race gets lively. CBS Sports noted that Corbin Burnes won the 2021 NL Cy Young for Milwaukee with 167 innings, the lowest total for a starting pitcher to win the award in a full season. If Misiorowski is held well below a traditional ace workload, rivals with stronger inning totals could have a lane.

Cristopher Sánchez, Phillies, +700: CBS Sports listed Sánchez at 12-4 with a 2.71 ERA, 151 strikeouts in 132 2/3 innings and a field-leading 5.4 WAR. Snyder also noted his 50 2/3-inning scoreless run earlier this season, described as the fifth-longest in MLB history.
Zack Wheeler, Phillies, +750: Wheeler has made 16 starts after a late start tied to a blood clot last season and offseason thoracic outlet syndrome surgery, according to CBS Sports. He is 10-2 with a 2.16 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 117 strikeouts against 22 walks in 100 innings. Snyder called him the best bet among the contenders.
Chris Sale, Braves, +900: The 2024 winner remains in the mix at age 37. CBS Sports listed him at 11-6 with a 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 134 strikeouts in 111 innings, with workload not framed as a concern.
Corbin Burns, Diamondbacks, +2000: Burns is 12-1 with a 2.42 ERA and 1.11 WHIP, according to CBS Sports, but Snyder wrote that Arizona may also limit him because he threw 111 innings last season and has 107 2/3 this year.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dodgers, +2800: Yamamoto is 10-6 with a 2.78 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 113 strikeouts in 119 2/3 innings. CBS Sports noted the Dodgers are again planning for a long postseason.
Misiorowski’s case remains the loudest on performance. The question, according to CBS Sports, is whether Milwaukee lets him pile up enough innings to keep the voters from looking elsewhere.
