Scheffler lands in Minnesota as 3M Open favorite

Scottie Scheffler is taking a rare swing through Minnesota, and the world No. 1 arrives as the clear betting favorite for this week’s 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities.
The tournament runs July 23-26 in Blaine, Minnesota, with only three PGA Tour events left before the FedEx Cup Playoffs. CBS Sports’ Patrick McDonald reports that the week carries extra weight for players trying to grab or protect postseason spots before the regular season ends at the Wyndham Championship.
Scheffler is making his first appearance at the 3M Open. According to CBS Sports, he comes in after a trip to Scotland and England that included his first missed cut in four years and another near miss. His most recent Open bid was hurt by struggles on the greens, even as his ball-striking continued to create birdie chances.
DraftKings lists Scheffler at 5/2, the shortest price in the field. CBS Sports notes that he remains No. 1 in the season-long race and that this is expected to be his final start before the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He has not won since his first start of the 2026 season, according to the report.
Playoff bubble brings the squeeze
The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings at the end of the regular season qualify for the postseason, and several familiar names are hovering near key cutoffs.
Defending 3M Open champion Kurt Kitayama is No. 32 in the FedEx Cup standings, according to CBS Sports. That puts him safely inside the playoff line but outside the current Tour Championship picture. DraftKings has him at 23-1 this week.
Tom Kim, who won the Scottish Open, enters at No. 35 in the standings and is priced at 29-1. Hideki Matsuyama is No. 37 and listed at 28-1. CBS Sports notes that Matsuyama made the cut in all four majors this season and has posted back-to-back top-14 finishes at the Travelers Championship and The Open.
The top-50 bubble is tight, too. Max Homa and Maverick McNealy sit at Nos. 49 and 50, respectively, while Johnny Keefer and Jason Day are just outside the playoff line at Nos. 71 and 72, according to CBS Sports.
Course and key odds
TPC Twin Cities is a par-71 course measuring 7,431 yards. The Arnold Palmer design will host a tournament carrying an $8.8 million purse.

CBS Sports highlighted several players beyond Scheffler. Jake Knapp has missed three cuts in four starts since returning at the U.S. Open, with the no-cut Travelers Championship the exception. Jackson Koivun followed a missed cut in his pro debut with a top-10 finish at the ISCO Championship.
Jackson Suber also arrives in form. CBS Sports reports that he finished T28 at The Open after spending time on the leaderboard at Royal Birkdale, following finishes of fourth at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, T4 at the Canadian Open and T6 at the John Deere Classic.
CBS Sports picks Kim to win
McDonald’s pick to win is Tom Kim at 29-1, citing his Scottish Open victory, improved iron play and the history of accurate players succeeding at TPC Twin Cities. CBS Sports also named Homa as a contender at 51-1 after his runner-up finish at the John Deere Classic and T28 at The Open.
The sleeper pick is Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen at 66-1. CBS Sports reports that the Danish player has made seven consecutive cuts, including a T9 at The Open, and calls his driving a strength entering his first start at TPC Twin Cities.
