Tyreek Hill is back moving on camera, but the free-agent wide receiver says his surgically repaired left leg still is not firing the way he needs it to.
In a YouTube workout video posted Wednesday night, Hill said he remains short on strength roughly 10 months after undergoing two operations following a serious knee injury suffered last season. ESPN reported that the injury included a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments from a Week 4 game against the New York Jets.
“So it's about 10 months after doing two surgeries,” Hill said in the video. “My left leg is the one that I injured. I have no power in my left leg, so I'm trying to regain all the power back in my left leg. But it's one day at a time.”
The video shows Hill working through several training movements, including brief running. Hill said in the video that he was not supposed to be running, adding that he likes to challenge himself.
A long road back
Hill, 32, also said he was told after the injury that he “might not be able to walk again.” Ten months later, he said he feels good as he continues the rehab process.
ESPN described the footage as an indication that Hill could still be some distance from an NFL return, given his own comments about lacking power in the injured leg. Hill did not announce a target date for playing again.
He did, however, sound upbeat about where things stand. “I ain't going to tell you what my timeline is, but timeline looking real good right now, man,” Hill said.
Free agent for the first time
Hill is currently unattached after the Miami Dolphins released him in February, according to ESPN. The move made him a free agent for the first time in his 10-year NFL career.
The eight-time Pro Bowler said at the time of his release that “The Cheetah will be back,” ESPN reported. His latest public update did not include a team visit, contract development or firm return plan.
For now, the update is about rehab: a star receiver, a damaged left leg, and a comeback attempt still being measured one workout at a time.
