Ookla Speedtest report 2026 puts T-Mobile and AT&T Fiber on top
Ookla’s first-half 2026 rankings name T-Mobile the leading mobile network and AT&T Fiber the top fixed internet provider in the U.S.

The Ookla Speedtest report 2026 has a clear mobile winner: T-Mobile took the top overall U.S. mobile network title and the top 5G network title for the first half of the year, according to Ookla.
The telecom analytics firm said T-Mobile posted a median mobile download speed of 275.55 Mbps. On 5G, Ookla put T-Mobile’s median download speed at 314.38 Mbps.
Ookla said T-Mobile had the fastest mobile speeds in 47 states from January through June. The exceptions were Alaska, where GCI led for mobile speed, and North Dakota and Vermont, where Ookla listed no winner.

The wins were not limited to raw speed. According to Ookla, T-Mobile also led in mobile experience scores, including scores tied to gaming and video streaming, and it ranked as the most consistent mobile network.
Coverage was the one mobile category where T-Mobile did not lead. Ookla placed Verizon first and AT&T second for coverage.
Ookla’s rankings focus on network performance rather than plan prices or overall value. Still, T-Mobile also led in consumer sentiment among Speedtest users, with an average rating of 3.77 out of five stars. Verizon averaged 3.25, while AT&T averaged 3.09, according to Ookla.
Which home internet provider ranked best?
For fixed internet, Ookla named AT&T Fiber the best internet service provider in the U.S. for the first half of 2026. Ookla said AT&T Fiber also had the fastest fixed network, with a median download speed of 374.75 Mbps.
AT&T Fiber also ranked as the most consistent fixed internet network and had the strongest consumer star rating in the category, averaging 3.63 out of five, according to Ookla.
Verizon did take one fixed-internet prize: best gaming experience. Ookla said that score is based on factors including latency, upload speed, download speed and jitter. Verizon’s gaming score finished a little more than one point ahead of AT&T Fiber, according to the report.
Ookla’s national fixed network chart ranked AT&T Fiber first, followed by Verizon, Cox, Xfinity and Spectrum.
Which states had the fastest speeds?
Ookla also broke out results by state and city, including median speeds and latency. Kansas had the fastest median mobile speed at 242.56, and Ookla said T-Mobile was the fastest provider in that state.
For fixed internet, Connecticut led with a median download speed of 344.24 Mbps. Ookla named Frontier Fiber as the fastest fixed provider in Connecticut.
What is Speedtest and how did Ookla measure this?
Speedtest is Ookla’s service that lets users check internet performance, including download speed, upload speed and ping. Ookla said its U.S. connectivity report is based on data gathered through Speedtest.
Ookla did not specify how many U.S. Speedtest users were included in this report. In its methodology, the company says it receives hundreds of millions of test results from around the world each day.
