Police have identified two people killed in the Oregon school shooting victims update: 25-year-old teacher Meghan Lambert and 5-year-old student Rhoam Summer. The identifications were announced Friday, a day after the attack at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, according to CBS News.
Four people, three children and one teacher, were killed in Thursday's shooting. The other two children who died were 8 and 11, Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said; their families had not made their names public.
Who were the victims identified in the Oregon school shooting?
Lambert was a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary. Her family described her in a statement as compassionate, saying she cared strongly about children with special needs and stood up for people who needed support, CBS News reported.
Summer's father wrote in a Facebook group that his son had been killed and said the family was surrounded by friends and relatives, according to CBS News.
The two other children killed have been identified publicly only by their ages.
What is known about those injured?
A 7-year-old girl remained in serious but stable condition at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, CBS News reported. A 54-year-old teacher sustained serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was receiving treatment at St. Charles Medical Center. Neither injured person was named.
Police identified the suspected shooter as 16-year-old Griffin J. John II, a former Silver Rail student. Authorities said he was shot and killed at the scene by a bystander.
Krantz also praised an unnamed teacher who, police said, threw her cellphone at the suspect, tackled him and tried to take away his firearm. The teacher was not injured in that confrontation, and Krantz said her actions likely prevented further bloodshed.
The investigation was continuing. Officials said the suspected shooter had previously attended the school as a special-needs student.
