Lewis Uvwo turned the paint into a no-fly zone at Peach Jam, averaging six blocks across seven games, according to CBS Sports’ Isaac Trotter.
The annual grassroots showcase in North Augusta, South Carolina, gave college coaches another live look at top prospects from several classes, with 247Sports rankings framing much of the buzz. Trotter reported that the event, now a 30-year stop on the summer circuit, came after a heavy travel stretch for many recruits.
CBS Sports noted that the 2027 class at the event did not feature an especially deep group of big men, which made Uvwo’s shot-blocking stand out even more. The 6-foot-11 center, ranked No. 6 by 247Sports in the 2027 class, had a 10-point, nine-rebound, 10-block game against Team Herro, per Trotter.
Uvwo, who is from Nigeria, began playing basketball less than three years ago, CBS Sports reported. Trotter wrote that he is not expected to reclassify into 2026 because he picked up the sport late.
Black keeps hold of the spotlight
Beckham Black, the No. 1 player in 247Sports’ 2027 rankings, did plenty to back up that label. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard averaged 24 points per game and finished with 32 assists against 13 turnovers in six Peach Jam games, according to CBS Sports.
Black, the younger brother of Anthony Black, also has visits to Texas and North Carolina coming, Trotter reported. CBS Sports said multiple major programs remain involved in his recruitment.
Cayden Daughtry also landed in CBS Sports’ top group of Peach Jam performers. The 247Sports No. 9 player in 2027 drew praise from Trotter for his ballhandling, competitiveness and composure. Iowa has made clear it is heavily pursuing Daughtry, according to CBS Sports.
Two younger names also jumped out. JJ Crawford, son of Jamal Crawford, hit 13 3-pointers in four games, per CBS Sports. Trotter reported that the 6-foot-3 guard, who is in the 2029 class, is expected to be a five-star prospect when 247Sports ranks that class.
Benji Berrouet, ranked No. 22 in 247Sports’ 2028 class, averaged 17 points, 13 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 1.1 assists, according to CBS Sports.
Commitments and reclass buzz
Vanderbilt commit Gabe Nesmith, ranked No. 33 in 247Sports’ 2026 class, has reclassified and will join the Commodores for 2026-27, CBS Sports reported. Trotter described the 6-foot-5 wing as Vanderbilt’s third-highest-rated recruit ever and projected him as a rotation option.
Arkansas commit Davion Thompson, ranked No. 40 in 2026, averaged 20.8 points at Peach Jam and shot 43% from 3-point range on eight attempts per game, according to CBS Sports. Trotter reported that Thompson also reclassified to 2026 and could get early minutes after Meleek Thomas stayed in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Another Arkansas commit, Caleb Ourigou, has drawn reclassification buzz, CBS Sports reported. The 6-foot-9 big man, ranked No. 51 in 2027, had multiple offensive rebounds in five of six Peach Jam games.
Duke commit Kager Knueppel, ranked No. 24 in 2027, made seven 3-pointers in one half against Daughtry’s Florida Rebels, per CBS Sports. Trotter also tracked Gonzaga commit Dooney Johnson, who said he has not discussed reclassification with the Zags.
Kentucky commit Ryan Hampton averaged 14.1 points and 5.4 rebounds while shooting 35% from 3 in seven games, according to CBS Sports. Iowa State commit Jack Kohnen’s top outing was a 35-point game against the PSA Cardinals, including five made 3-pointers.
