Producer Rodrigo Teixeira will receive the first Árbol de la Vida Visionary Award at GuadaLAjara Film Festival, according to Variety. The Rodrigo Teixeira GLAFF award presentation is set for Nov. 6, with actor Wagner Moura scheduled to hand over the honor before a screening of James Gray’s “Paper Tiger,” which Teixeira produced.

GLAFF is the Los Angeles offshoot of the Guadalajara International Film Festival. Its new award is intended to recognize people whose work has had a lasting effect on cinema and helped strengthen links between Latin America and the wider film industry, Variety reported.

What is the Árbol de la Vida Visionary Award?

The Árbol de la Vida Visionary Award is a new GLAFF honor. Teixeira is its first announced recipient, with the festival naming his work as a producer as the focus of its inaugural presentation.

“Paper Tiger” is Teixeira’s third film with director Gray, after “Ad Astra” and “Armageddon Time,” according to Variety. The producer’s RT Features has credits including “Call Me by Your Name,” “The Lighthouse,” “The Witch” and “Invisible Life.”

Screen Daily described RT Features as a Brazilian producer-financier and identified Teixeira as its founder. The outlet also reported that “Paper Tiger” had its world premiere at Cannes before later festival dates in New York and London.

What will Rodrigo Teixeira do at the GLAFF Co-Production Lab?

Separately, Teixeira will serve as the first mentor for GLAFF’s new Co-Production Lab. Variety reported that the initiative was developed with the Guadalajara International Film Festival to encourage film co-productions between Mexico and the United States.

GLAFF executive director Ximena Urrutia said Teixeira’s experience working with artists across borders would help emerging filmmakers build cross-border partnerships through the lab.

The award event lands in the middle of GLAFF’s 16th edition, scheduled for Nov. 5 through Nov. 7 in Los Angeles. Variety reported that Diego Luna’s “Ashes” will open the festival, while Eddie Sánchez’s “Mexicanamerican” is set to close it.
